Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

Make a free initial consultation appointment. We offer a free 30-minute initial consultation so that you and the therapist can decide if the approach fits you and your needs. This meeting is also a chance to talk about logistics, goals, and next steps.

The first step is to contact us via phone or email. We can discuss what is motivating you for counseling and what counseling entails. If during the 30-minute initial consultation we determine we are a good fit for each other, we will schedule your first appointment and send you intake documents. Intake paperwork must be completed by clients before the first counseling appointment and we require a credit card to remain on file.

I’ve never pursued counseling. What should I be doing?

Pursuing counseling can be daunting! It can be a tiring process to find a therapist that you feel connected to with mutual availability. At Evergreen, we’re huge proponents of “doctor shopping,” which is why we offer a free 30-minute initial consultation. We suggest that you reach out to a handful of therapists that you think you might like, talk via phone/video chat, and continue with someone you feel comfortable with. Trust and connection take time to build  — and it’s important that you feel like that can build with time.

I’ve never been in counseling. What should I expect?

The first session, we will probably ask you a lot of questions to get to know you. We want to get an idea of who you are and a bit about your background instead of just what motivated you to seek out counseling.  We might also have you complete an assessment for us so we can use data to track progress.

During the first session or two, we will also focus on goal creation. You might receive a question like, “if things were better in three weeks, what would be different? What would other people notice about you if things were better?” to help us define what we’re striving for.

As we continue to work together, we’ll learn more about what brought you into counseling (e.g., racing mind), how certain patterns may have worked for you historically (e.g., being able to plan and feel in control), and how that maybe isn’t working for you anymore (e.g., feeling overwhelmed and unable to turn your brain off).

Our goal is to empower you, empathize with you, and challenge you when needed. We believe that we, with effort, can restructure the way we think, behave, and interact with others, which can all affect how we feel.  We’ll also check in with you periodically to get your opinion of how counseling is going, collaboratively changing course as needed.

How does tele therapy work?

Before your first telesession, you’ll get a unique link to the waiting room of our online platform, Zoom. You may choose to download and use the Zoom app but this is not necessary. Once you click the link and arrive at the site or app, you’ll enter your name and your therapist will greet you in the virtual waiting room. Be sure to use a secure internet connection rather than public/free Wi-Fi. You can use a computer, laptop, or smartphone.

Do you take insurance?

Tacianna takes Aetna, Optum, and United Healthcare.

We are also Out of Network (OON) providers. This means you pay the practice directly and if your health insurance contract has OON benefits, you may receive reimbursement of the cost of treatment. If you’d like to use your OON benefits, our office will take care of all the paperwork and claim submissions for you.

Fees range from $160.00 to $200.00 per session (50-60 minutes) depending on the service provided.  Payments are due at the time of your appointment. Payment options are cash, paper check, or credit card.

What if I have an emergency?

If you have an urgent situation that cannot wait until your regularly scheduled appointment, call your therapist directly. We have voicemail that we monitor frequently and we will make every effort to return your call promptly.

In an emergency: If you are unable to reach your therapist during a crisis, contact your primary care physician or psychiatrist.

Call 911 if the risk of harm to yourself or others is imminent.
